A well-known nightclub that has been the scene of numerous violent incidents has received a two-week suspension notice from the City of Mississauga.
Since January of last year, Her Nightclub, near Eglinton Avenue East and Dixie Road, has been on the scene for more than two dozen instances, according to Peel Regional Police, who have had to respond to several calls.
Most recently, on September 4, a man suffered critical injuries following a shooting outside the nightclub.
Director of Enforcement Mike Foley said in a statement that the suspension would start on Friday and last 14 days.
According to the statement, Her Nightclub, also known as Entice Ultra Club, has been ordered to cease operations from Friday (September 9).
Additionally, the club will need to comply with numerous conditions placed by the police to retain its Adult Entertainment Operating Licence and Eatery Licences.
While minimal information has been released regarding the particulars as to why the club has been ordered to shut down, Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie emphasized that the decision was taken in the best interest of public safety.
In a statement, Mayor Bonnie reassures that the city is doing everything within its power to keep residents safe and be on top of the ongoing situation.
Further, she reiterated that gun and gang violence has no place in the city of Mississauga, as it threatens innocent bystanders’ lives.
In August, Police issued a public warning about the “heightened risks” of going to the club.
Six firearms were seized, while there were “many” priority calls for disruptive behaviour, and there were four more shootings among the calls that police had attended.
In a recent news release, the police reported having to commit additional resources to cater to the numerous calls from the club, which started to impact their preparedness for responding to other priority calls.
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie stated that city bylaw inspectors have intensified their compliance checks at HER nightclub following the shooting on September 4. She asked locals to stay away from the business while police investigated.
