cpp oas gis: Service Canada Updates 2026 CPP OAS and GIS Amounts

Service Canada has updated its public pension information for 2026, including the latest Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS) and Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) figures.

The update confirms the maximum OAS and GIS amounts available for the July-to-September 2026 payment period and provides updated CPP figures for recipients and new beneficiaries.

The government information was updated on September 25, 2026, while the next scheduled CPP, OAS and GIS payment date is October 28, 2026.

Cpp Oas Gis: 2026 CPP, OAS and GIS amounts

The published amounts are maximum or reference figures, rather than a guarantee that every recipient will receive the same monthly payment.

Benefit2026 amount or figurePeriod or condition
CPP retirement pensionUp to $1,507.65 per monthMaximum at age 65 in January 2026
CPP retirement pension$877.01 per monthAverage for new beneficiaries aged 65 from July to September 2026
OAS pensionUp to $751.97 per monthRecipients aged 65 to 74, July to September 2026
OAS pensionUp to $827.17 per monthRecipients aged 75 and over, July to September 2026
GISUp to $1,123.17 per monthSingle, widowed or divorced recipients
GISUp to $676.09 per monthRecipients whose spouse receives a full OAS pension or the Allowance

The CPP maximum applies to someone who qualifies for the maximum retirement pension at age 65.

CPP retirement pension information indicates that individual CPP payment amounts depend on factors including contribution history, earnings and the age when the pension begins.

OAS payments depend mainly on a recipient’s age, years of residence in Canada after age 18 and income.

People who lived in Canada for at least 10 years but less than 40 years after age 18 may receive a partial OAS pension.

The GIS is income-tested and available to eligible low-income OAS recipients.

Its payment amounts are recalculated each July using the recipient’s income from the previous calendar year.

OAS and GIS income thresholds

For the July-to-September 2026 quarter, the government lists the following annual income limits for the main OAS and GIS categories.

Benefit categoryIncome limit
OAS recipient aged 65 to 742025 net world income below $152,062
OAS recipient aged 75 and over2025 net world income below $157,923
Single, widowed or divorced GIS recipientAnnual net income below $22,800
GIS recipient whose spouse receives full OASCombined annual income below $30,096
GIS recipient whose spouse receives the AllowanceCombined annual income below $42,144
GIS recipient whose spouse receives neither OAS nor the AllowanceCombined annual income below $54,624

These thresholds are used with the person’s circumstances and do not by themselves determine the final benefit amount.

OAS payments are set to rise again in October

Service Canada says OAS benefits will increase by 1.4 per cent for the October-to-December 2026 quarter.

The increase is based on changes in the Consumer Price Index and follows a 1.2 per cent increase applied for the July-to-September quarter.

OAS payment rates are reviewed in January, April, July and October.

The rates can rise when the cost of living increases, but they do not fall when the index declines.

The exact October-to-December maximum amounts should be checked against the government’s updated payment tables once they are posted for that quarter.

What recipients should check now

GIS recipients who have not yet filed their 2025 income tax return should do so as soon as possible.

Service Canada warns that GIS payments may be reduced or stopped if the required income information is not available, although recipients may also report their income directly to the department to renew or confirm eligibility.

Recipients can also review their pension information and payment details through My Service Canada Account.

Service Canada has added direct-deposit access in the account, allowing eligible users to manage their payment destination after registering and signing in, including through GIS direct deposit.

When the next payments are due

The next scheduled OAS payment date for CPP, OAS and GIS is October 28, 2026.

Government payment dates indicate when payments are issued, but mailed cheques can take longer to arrive than direct deposits.

Recipients are advised to allow five to 10 business days before contacting the program about a payment that has not arrived, including the next CPP payments.
