Editorial Mission
We focus on timely Canadian developments that can materially affect a reader's money, benefits, taxes, job, immigration status, purchases, travel, safety or daily life. We favour practical consequence over volume and do not publish a story merely because a topic is trending.
Source Standards
Primary sources are preferred whenever reasonably available. These can include federal, provincial, territorial and municipal agencies, legislation and regulations, court records, regulators, company filings, official statements, public data and first-party documentation. Secondary reporting may be used for context, corroboration or developments that are not yet documented in a primary source.
Claims from governments, companies, public officials, advocacy groups or other interested parties are attributed to the party making the claim when the statement cannot be independently established as fact.
Headlines And Presentation
Headlines should accurately reflect the article and may emphasize the most consequential verified development. We do not intentionally use a headline, image or social caption that contradicts the underlying reporting. Images used for illustration should not be presented as documentary evidence of an event they do not depict.
News, Analysis And Opinion
News reporting should distinguish established facts from analysis, estimates and attributed claims. Opinion or sponsored material, when published, should be clearly labelled so readers can distinguish it from standard news coverage.
Political Coverage
CTC News does not endorse political parties or candidates through its standard news reporting. Political and public-policy coverage should focus on documented actions, proposals, records, legislation and measurable effects, with contested claims clearly attributed.
Conflicts And Commercial Influence
Advertisers, affiliate partners and sponsors do not receive the right to approve or alter independent editorial coverage. Sponsored or paid material should be identified as such. Writers and editors should avoid undisclosed financial conflicts involving subjects they cover.
Automation And AI-Assisted Production
CTC News may use automated systems and AI-assisted tools in research, monitoring, drafting, summarization, formatting and production. These tools are not considered authoritative sources. Source documents and attributable evidence remain the basis for factual reporting, and automated output may be revised when errors or unsupported claims are identified.
