costco wholesale: Costco Wholesale reports record fiscal 2026 sales

Costco Wholesale closed its 2026 fiscal year with record sales and higher profit, giving investors a fresh look at its fiscal 2026 operating results across Canada, the United States and its international markets.

The company reported annual net sales of US$297.2 billion for the 52 weeks ended August 30, 2026, up 10.1 per cent from US$269.9 billion a year earlier.

Costco also reported fourth-quarter net sales of US$93.9 billion, an 11.2 per cent increase from US$84.4 billion in the same quarter of fiscal 2025.

Costco Wholesale delivers double-digit annual growth

Annual net income reached US$9.226 billion, or US$20.76 per diluted share, compared with US$8.099 billion, or US$18.21 per share, in fiscal 2025.

For the 16-week fourth quarter, net income was US$2.998 billion, or US$6.75 per diluted share, compared with US$2.610 billion, or US$5.87 per share, in the prior-year quarter.

The latest quarterly figures included a non-recurring benefit of US$0.15 per diluted share from tariff refunds received under the company’s reporting-period adjustment, partly offset by reinvestment intended to increase value for members.

Costco’s membership-fee revenue increased to US$5.907 billion for the year from US$5.323 billion in fiscal 2025.

Canadian comparable sales rise 7.8 per cent

Canada remained one of Costco’s major international markets, with comparable sales rising 7.8 per cent for the full fiscal year.

Canadian comparable sales increased 5.0 per cent during the fourth quarter, while the company’s adjusted annual comparison, excluding gasoline-price and foreign-exchange effects, rose 6.7 per cent.

The adjusted figures are intended to provide a clearer view of underlying retail activity because fuel prices and currency movements can materially affect reported sales.

Costco operated 115 warehouses in Canada at the end of the fiscal year, within a global network of 939 warehouses.

The company’s Canadian operations also include an e-commerce site, giving members access to online merchandise in addition to warehouse shopping.

Digital sales remain a major growth area

Digitally enabled sales increased 20.9 per cent for the full fiscal year and 19.5 per cent in the fourth quarter.

The result shows that Costco’s growth is no longer limited to physical warehouse traffic, although the company’s membership model and large-format stores remain central to its business.

Costco’s operating strategy continues to focus on a limited selection of nationally branded and private-label products, high sales volumes and rapid inventory turnover.

That model allows the retailer to operate with lower merchandise margins than many conventional retailers while generating revenue from annual membership fees.

What comes next for Costco

Costco has scheduled the release of its September sales results for October 7, 2026.

The September update will provide the first monthly indication of how the company began fiscal 2027 after completing a year of double-digit sales growth.

Investors will likely watch Canadian comparable sales, digital growth, membership-fee revenue and the pace of new warehouse openings as indicators of whether Costco can maintain its recent momentum.

The company has not provided a full-year fiscal 2027 earnings forecast in the latest operating-results announcement.

Costco’s next quarterly earnings call is scheduled for December 10, 2026, when the company is expected to report results for the first quarter of fiscal 2027.
