The driver involved in the Tsawwassen Mills crash has been released from hospital after receiving medical attention and being interviewed by Delta police.

Two Tsawwassen First Nation elders died and two other pedestrians remain in critical condition following the September 30, 2026, collision in the mall parking lot.

Tsawwassen Mills Crash: What police say happened

Police said a vehicle struck four pedestrians shortly after 10:25 a.m. on Wednesday at Tsawwassen Mills in Delta, British Columbia, according to the initial collision release.

The two people who died were pronounced deceased at the scene, while the other two victims were airlifted to hospital with serious, life-altering injuries.

Investigators are examining whether the driver experienced a medical emergency before the collision and contributed to what happened.

That possibility remains under investigation and has not been established as the final cause of the crash.

Delta police said there is currently no information suggesting the collision was intentional.

No charges had been sworn as of Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Collision was separate from Truth and Reconciliation event

The crash occurred on Tsawwassen First Nation lands while a Truth and Reconciliation Walk was taking place nearby.

Police said the collision was not related to the walk, and there was no ongoing public-safety risk after the incident.

The area where the crash happened had been scheduled to host a House Post unveiling after the walk, although the ceremony had not yet begun when the vehicle struck the pedestrians.

Police also said there is no evidence at this stage connecting the collision to the planned ceremony or the community event.

Investigation remains active

The Delta Police Traffic Collision Team is leading the investigation.

Investigators have collected witness statements, reviewed available surveillance and cellphone video, and examined other evidence from the scene.

Police continue to ask anyone who saw the collision, observed the vehicle before it happened, or has cellphone, dash-camera or surveillance footage to come forward.

Information can be provided to Delta police at 604-946-4444 by referencing file 26-18401.

The identities of the two people who died have not been released while investigators work with the BC Coroners Service and support the affected families.

Police acknowledged the assistance provided by witnesses, emergency health personnel, firefighters and officers who responded to the scene.

What happens next

Police are expected to continue reconstructing the collision and reviewing medical, vehicle and video evidence before deciding whether charges are appropriate.

The driver’s release from hospital does not end the investigation.

Police have not said whether the driver remains subject to any driving restrictions or whether further interviews are planned.

The two surviving pedestrians’ conditions also remain a major part of the ongoing investigation, although police have not released further details about their identities.
