Advanced Canada Workers Benefit Payment Set for October 9

The Canada Revenue Agency has scheduled the next advanced Canada workers benefit payment for October 9, 2026, but the amount depends on individual tax and income details.

advanced canada workers benefit: Advanced Canada Workers Benefit Payment Set for October 9

The next advanced Canada workers benefit payment is scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2026, according to the Government of Canada’s official benefits calendar.

The payment is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency and is intended for eligible low-income workers and families who qualify for the Canada workers benefit.

It is not a universal payment, and Canadians should not expect the same amount because entitlement depends on income, family circumstances, province or territory and other eligibility details.

The October payment is the third scheduled advanced Canada workers benefit instalment listed for 2026, following payments on January 12 and July 10.

The official CRA payment calendar identifies October 9, 2026, as the payment date for the Advanced Canada workers benefit, or ACWB.

Who may receive the advanced Canada workers benefit

The Canada workers benefit is a refundable tax credit for individuals and families who work and earn a low income.

The credit has a basic component and a disability supplement for people who qualify for the disability tax credit.

Generally, a person must have working income and net income below the applicable limit for their province or territory.

Other rules can apply, including restrictions related to full-time students and family circumstances.

The CRA says a full-time student for more than 13 weeks in the year generally cannot qualify for the basic benefit unless the person has an eligible dependant.

Eligibility is assessed using information from the income tax and benefit return, rather than by simply applying for the October payment.

For the 2025 tax year, the CRA lists a maximum basic CWB amount of $1,633 for single individuals and $2,813 for families outside Alberta, Quebec and Nunavut.

Those figures are annual maximums for the underlying Canada workers benefit, not guaranteed October payment amounts.

The maximum basic amounts and income thresholds vary in Alberta, Quebec and Nunavut, and the benefit is reduced as income rises.

How the October ACWB amount is calculated

The CRA says eligible recipients can receive up to 50 per cent of their Canada workers benefit through advance payments during the benefit year.

If a person qualifies for the disability supplement, the advance-payment calculation can also include 50 per cent of that supplement.

The amount is based on information such as working income, adjusted net income, family status, dependants and province or territory of residence.

For married or common-law couples, only one spouse generally receives the family’s basic advanced payment, while disability supplement rules can differ.

Because the ACWB is calculated from tax information, two people receiving the October payment may receive different amounts or one person may receive nothing.

The CRA can also recalculate benefits when information changes, and an overpayment may later be recovered through a tax refund or future benefit payments.

Recipients should review their notice of assessment and CRA account information if the amount appears different from an earlier instalment.

The CRA’s current guidance on advance payments says advance payments are issued automatically when a person was entitled to the CWB based on a filed tax return for the previous year and the return was received before November 1 of the relevant benefit period.

When the money should arrive

Payments are issued on the date shown in the federal calendar, but the time at which money appears can depend on the recipient’s bank and payment method.

Direct deposit is generally faster than a mailed cheque, while cheques can take longer to arrive after the scheduled issue date.

The Government of Canada advises recipients to allow up to 10 working days before contacting the CRA about a missing ACWB payment.

People can sign in to CRA My Account to check their next payment, review benefit information and confirm whether direct-deposit details are current.

Anyone who has changed banks or accounts should update their direct-deposit information with the CRA to avoid payment delays.

The official benefits calendar also warns that payments may take a few days to arrive even when they are issued on the listed date.

What recipients should check before October 9

  • Confirm that the 2025 income tax and benefit return has been filed and processed.
  • Review the CRA My Account payment section for the expected ACWB amount.
  • Check that banking information and mailing details are up to date.
  • Compare the payment with the household’s income, family status and province or territory information.
  • Wait up to 10 working days after October 9 before contacting the CRA about a missing payment.

The October 9 payment is an advance against a potential Canada workers benefit entitlement and does not replace the requirement to report the advance on the applicable tax return.

Recipients should keep the CRA’s RC210 information slip because advance payments must be reported when filing taxes.

The October ACWB payment is separate from other CRA-administered benefits, including the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit payment scheduled for October 5, 2026.

Canadians who do not qualify for the CWB, have not had their tax information processed or have a different household income should not assume they will receive an ACWB payment.
