Connor McDavid marked his 800th NHL game with a goal and three assists as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 on Tuesday, October 13, at Crypto.com Arena.

The win completed a perfect three-game California road trip for Edmonton and extended the Oilers’ winning streak to five games.

Edmonton remains the only NHL team yet to lose in regulation at the beginning of the 2026-27 season.

Connor McDavid dominates milestone night

McDavid entered the game leading the NHL with 13 points through five contests and finished the night with 16 points, including four goals and 12 assists.

His four-point performance pushed his season-opening point streak to six games.

The Oilers captain became the seventh player in franchise history to appear in 800 games, joining Kevin Lowe, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan Smyth, Leon Draisaitl, Mark Messier and Glenn Anderson.

McDavid now has 1,236 points through his first 800 NHL games, a total surpassed only by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux at the same stage of their careers.

He needed less than 13 minutes to make his mark on the game.

McDavid set up Leon Draisaitl for the opening goal at 12:44 of the first period before assisting on Vasily Podkolzin’s power-play marker less than a minute later.

At 4:12, McDavid added a goal of his own by splitting the Kings’ defence on a breakaway and sliding the puck past goaltender Darcy Kuemper.

The goal gave Edmonton a 3-0 lead after the opening period and handed McDavid three points in the first frame of his milestone game.

Oilers build early lead before weathering Kings pressure

Podkolzin opened the scoring sequence by creating traffic around the Kings’ net, while Draisaitl finished a quick release from McDavid to give Edmonton the lead.

Podkolzin then doubled the advantage on the power play by depositing McDavid’s rebound.

The Kings responded in the second period when Brandt Clarke’s shot found the net at 2:30.

Los Angeles controlled much of the middle frame and outshot Edmonton 17-5.

That pressure forced the Oilers to rely heavily on Devon Levi, who made several important stops to preserve Edmonton’s two-goal advantage.

Levi stopped all 18 shots he faced in the second period and finished with a career-high 38 saves.

The 24-year-old goaltender improved to 4-0-0 since joining the Oilers.

His performance also helped Edmonton protect its lead after the Kings generated sustained offensive-zone pressure.

Vasily Podkolzin seals Edmonton’s fifth straight win

Podkolzin scored his second goal of the night into an empty net with 2:18 remaining in the third period.

McDavid earned his fourth point on the play by setting up the insurance goal with Draisaitl.

Podkolzin extended his personal point streak to six games and continued a strong start to the season.

He has recorded at least one point in eight consecutive games dating back to last season’s playoffs.

Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard also finished with multiple points in the victory.

Bouchard entered the game near the top of the NHL scoring race after producing six goals and 12 points through Edmonton’s first five games.

What comes next for the Oilers

Edmonton returns home to Rogers Place on Thursday, October 15, to begin a home-and-away set against the Utah Mammoth.

The Oilers will be seeking a sixth consecutive victory when the series opens.

The early-season results have given Edmonton a strong start despite the club navigating lineup changes and injuries.

Los Angeles, meanwhile, remains without a win through its first five games after opening the season with two regulation losses and two overtime defeats before Tuesday’s loss.

The Kings will next host the Boston Bruins on Saturday, October 17.

For Edmonton, the immediate focus will shift from McDavid’s milestone to maintaining the defensive structure that allowed the team to survive Los Angeles’ second-period surge.

If Levi continues to provide reliable goaltending and McDavid’s line remains productive, the Oilers will carry significant momentum into their first home games of the season.
