express entry draw: Express Entry draw issues 2,500 CEC invitations

The latest Express Entry draw issued 2,500 invitations to apply for permanent residence to candidates in the Canadian Experience Class on October 15, 2026.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada recorded a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 519 for the round, according to the draw details reported by Immigration News Canada.

The selection was identified as round 449 and was recorded at 10:02:33 UTC.

The result gives eligible Canadian Experience Class candidates a chance to submit a permanent residence application, but an invitation is not an approval.

Applicants must still prove that the information in their Express Entry profiles is accurate and that they continue to meet program and admissibility requirements.

The invitation total was 500 higher than the previous CEC round, while the cutoff increased by one point from 518.

The 2,500 invitations represented a 25 per cent increase over the 2,000 invitations issued in the September 29 CEC draw.

IRCC runs different types of Express Entry rounds, including general, program-specific and category-based selections.

In a program-specific round, the department invites the highest-ranking candidates eligible for the named program, as outlined in its Express Entry rounds of invitations.

How the CRS cutoff and tie-break work

A CRS score of 519 did not automatically guarantee an invitation to every CEC candidate at that score.

When more candidates share the lowest score than there are available invitations, IRCC uses the date and time candidates submitted their Express Entry profiles as a tie-break.

For this round, profiles submitted before September 21, 2026, at 19:00:47 UTC ranked ahead of otherwise similar profiles submitted later if the tie-break was required.

The timestamp does not add CRS points and does not create a separate Canadian Experience Class eligibility requirement.

Candidates who were not invited may remain in the pool if their profiles are valid and they continue to qualify for an Express Entry program.

The October 15 selection came two days after a Provincial Nominee Program round that issued 752 invitations at a CRS cutoff of 772.

That result is not a direct measure of CEC competitiveness because PNP candidates receive additional CRS points through provincial or territorial nominations and are assessed in a different program-specific pool, as reported in the October 13 Express Entry draw.

Who qualifies for the Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers with eligible Canadian work experience.

IRCC requires at least one year, or 1,560 hours, of qualifying work in Canada during the three years before the permanent residence application, according to its Canadian Experience Class eligibility requirements.

The work must generally be paid, authorized and performed in an occupation classified under NOC TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3.

Applicants must also demonstrate that their duties match the NOC lead statement and most of the listed main duties.

CEC applicants must meet the minimum language level in all four abilities: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

The minimum is CLB 7 for TEER 0 and TEER 1 occupations, and CLB 5 for TEER 2 and TEER 3 occupations.

  • Volunteer work and unpaid internships generally do not count.
  • Work performed while studying full-time generally cannot be counted.
  • Most self-employed work is excluded, subject to limited exceptions.
  • A job offer is not required for CEC eligibility.
  • Education is not a minimum CEC requirement, although it can improve a CRS score.

Canadian work experience gained in Quebec can count if it meets the CEC rules.

However, applicants must demonstrate that they plan to live outside Quebec because the province selects its own skilled workers.

What invited candidates should do next

Selected candidates should first sign in to their IRCC accounts, confirm that the invitation names the Canadian Experience Class and review the deadline shown in the application message.

IRCC says an invitation to apply is valid for 60 days.

Candidates should begin collecting documents immediately because the application must be submitted before the invitation expires, and they can review IRCC processing times when planning their application.

Applicants should be prepared to document their employment history with records showing job titles, duties, dates and hours.

Other documents may include passports, civil-status records, valid language-test results, police certificates and medical examination information.

CEC applicants generally do not need settlement funds.

However, applicants should follow the specific document instructions in their IRCC account if the online application requests proof of funds or an explanation.

A change in personal circumstances can affect eligibility or reduce a candidate’s CRS score.

IRCC advises applicants to recalculate their score before applying; if the recalculated score is below the cutoff for the round, the invitation should be declined. Candidates can review the application process after an Express Entry invitation before submitting.

What happens to candidates who were not invited

Express Entry profiles generally remain active for up to 12 months after submission.

Candidates should check their account for the profile expiry date and update the profile when they receive new language results, gain eligible work experience or otherwise qualify for additional CRS points.

IRCC does not guarantee the timing, size, program or cutoff of a future round.

The October 15 result records the outcome of round 449 and should not be treated as a forecast for the next CEC draw.
