Queen Elizabeth II’s fashion exhibition at Buckingham Palace has been extended by six months, giving visitors until April 18, 2027, to see more than 300 items from the late monarch’s wardrobe.

Royal Collection Trust said the exhibition, titled Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style, was originally scheduled to close on October 18, 2026.

The extension was announced after the exhibition sold out within weeks of opening at The King’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, according to the trust.

Queen Elizabeth II exhibition now runs through April 2027

The display opened on April 10, 2026, as part of events marking the centenary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth.

She was born on April 21, 1926.

Royal Collection Trust describes the exhibition as the largest presentation of the late Queen’s fashion ever staged.

It follows her clothing and accessories across all 10 decades of her life, from childhood and her years as a princess to her seven decades as monarch.

The exhibition includes garments, jewellery, hats, shoes and accessories, along with design sketches, fabric samples and handwritten correspondence connected to the creation of her public wardrobe.

Among the featured pieces are Queen Elizabeth II’s christening robe, bridesmaid dress, wedding dress and Coronation dress.

An outfit worn for Princess Margaret’s wedding is also included.

The exhibition is intended to show not only the finished clothing worn by the Queen, but also the planning and craftsmanship behind it.

Some of the material provides insight into how Queen Elizabeth II worked with designers, dressmakers and other members of her household to create clothing for major public occasions.

The display also examines how colour, fabric, jewellery and accessories helped the monarch appear clearly at public events, including ceremonies, diplomatic occasions and visits across the Commonwealth.

Royal Collection Trust said many of the items are being shown publicly for the first time.

The Queen’s personal fashion archive is now held within the Royal Collection.

Visitors are being encouraged to book ahead because demand remains high.

The trust has also released an official centenary publication, Queen Elizabeth II: Fashion and Style, for people unable to attend in person.

Centenary events highlight the late monarch’s legacy

The exhibition is one of several projects connected to the centenary year.

A digital memorial launched in April 2026 also allows members of the public to explore Queen Elizabeth II’s public engagements and submit personal memories.

The memorial includes archive photographs, films and records covering her reign from 1952 to 2022.

New material released in September included photographs and objects connected to her visits, charitable work and public duties.

The British monarch died at Balmoral Castle on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.

In Canada, she remained a major constitutional and public figure after serving as Queen of Canada for more than 70 years.

Canadian Heritage says Queen Elizabeth II completed more official royal tours in Canada than in any other Commonwealth country.

Her 2010 visit was her 22nd official tour of the country.

For Canadians planning a visit to London, the exhibition’s new closing date provides an additional opportunity to view items connected to a monarch who maintained a long public relationship with Canada.

What happens next

Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style will remain at The King’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace, until April 18, 2027.

The gallery is scheduled to operate seven days a week while the exhibition is running.

Royal Collection Trust has also scheduled digital programming linked to the exhibition, including lectures examining the Queen’s wedding dress and Coronation dress.

The extension means the centenary display will continue well beyond the anniversary year itself, allowing visitors from the United Kingdom, Canada and other countries more time to examine the clothing and archival material assembled for the tribute.
