Rogers to add 1.6% fee for credit card bill payments

Rogers will introduce a 1.6% processing charge for customers who pay their bills by credit card beginning January 17, 2027. Quebec customers and some specialized plans are exempt.

rogers credit card fees: Rogers to add 1.6% fee for credit card bill payments

Rogers will begin charging a 1.6 per cent credit card processing fee on bill payments made by credit card starting January 17, 2027.

The new charge will apply to both one-time payments and recurring credit card Auto-Pay transactions, according to Rogers’ customer support information.

Rogers says the fee reflects charges it pays to credit card companies and will apply whenever a customer chooses a credit card as the payment method.

How the Rogers credit card fees will work

The 1.6 per cent charge will be calculated on the bill payment and added when the credit card transaction is processed.

For example, a $100 Rogers bill would generate a $1.60 processing charge before any applicable taxes.

For one-time payments, Rogers says customers will be shown a breakdown of the bill amount, the processing fee and applicable taxes before confirming the transaction.

Customers will also receive a payment confirmation by email, while their credit card statement will show the total amount charged rather than a separate fee line.

For Auto-Pay users, the monthly Rogers bill will show the bill amount, the processing charge and the expected date the credit card will be charged.

Who is exempt from the Rogers fee

The charge will not apply to customers in Quebec.

Rogers also says customers on select specialized plans will be exempt, including Connected for Success customers and former Shaw Mobile customers on migrated plans.

The company’s public guidance does not identify every plan that may qualify for an exemption, so customers with specialized or legacy accounts may need to confirm their status directly with Rogers.

Payment methods that avoid the charge

Customers can avoid the 1.6 per cent charge by switching away from credit card payments.

  • Direct debit from a bank account
  • Online banking payments
  • Cheques
  • Rogers gift cards
  • Prepaid cards
  • Debit Mastercard
  • Visa Debit

Rogers says none of those payment methods will be subject to the new credit card processing charge.

Customers who use Auto-Pay can update their payment method through MyRogers or MyRogers for Shaw.

What Rogers credit card holders should know

The new billing fee comes shortly before other changes to Rogers Bank’s credit card rewards and benefits.

Beginning November 18, 2026, Rogers Red cardholders will earn 5 per cent cash back on eligible Rogers purchases, including qualifying Rogers, Fido, Shaw and Comwave bill payments, subject to the annual spending limits attached to their cards.

Rogers Bank says the previous 1.5-times redemption bonus will no longer apply under the revised rewards structure.

That means customers who pay a Rogers bill with a Rogers Red card will need to compare the value of the rewards earned with the new processing charge.

A 1.6 per cent fee would reduce the value of a 5 per cent reward rate to an effective difference of 3.4 percentage points before considering taxes, annual limits or any other card terms.

That comparison may differ for customers whose card has reached its annual spending cap or who do not qualify for the highest rewards rate.

Other Rogers Bank changes are also approaching

Rogers Bank has separately announced changes to some card benefits effective November 18, 2026.

For Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard and Rogers Red World Elite Business Mastercard holders, emergency travel medical coverage for eligible cardholders aged 64 and under will increase from 10 days to 15 days.

At the same time, trip cancellation, trip interruption and trip delay coverage will be removed from those cards.

The bank has also said that the complimentary Roam Like Home days benefit will be replaced by an annual roaming credit beginning January 12, 2027.

The amount of that credit will depend on the card, ranging from $25 for the Rogers Red Mastercard to $200 for the Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard.

What customers should do before January

Rogers customers who currently use a credit card for bill payments should review their next few statements and decide whether the rewards earned are worth the added cost.

Those who want to avoid the fee should switch to direct debit, online banking or another listed payment method before the first payment processed on or after January 17, 2027.

Customers should also check whether changing payment methods affects any account-specific discounts or Auto-Pay conditions attached to their plan.

Rogers has not indicated that the new charge will apply to Quebec customers or the specialized plans identified in its guidance.
