Gildor Roy prepares for a special evening
Gildor Roy’s appearance was announced during the program’s previous episode, setting up a Halloween-night edition focused on one of Quebec’s most recognizable performers.
The production has not disclosed the full list of performers who will take part, preserving the element of surprise that has become central to the format.
Roy has worked across television, film, theatre and music for more than four decades.
His career includes roles in productions such as District 31, Les Boys, 30 vies and Trauma, as well as a long-running presence as a country singer and television host.
From District 31 to Dumas
For many viewers, Roy remains closely associated with commanding television roles, including Daniel Chiasson in District 31.
He currently stars as Jean Dumas in the Radio-Canada drama Dumas, created by Luc Dionne.
The series returned for a third season in September 2026, with Roy’s character at the centre of a family and legal conflict involving a private investigation firm.
The role reunited Roy with Dionne after their work together on District 31 and has introduced him to a new generation of viewers.
Roy has also remained active in film, including a role in La petite et le vieux, a Quebec production adapted from the novel by Marie-Renée Lavoie.
What viewers can expect
En direct de l’univers generally keeps the details of its musical tributes confidential until the broadcast begins.
That means Saturday’s episode is expected to focus less on advance announcements and more on the reactions of Roy and the people who know him best.
The format can include live singing, archival material and personal stories tied to the guest’s formative years, professional milestones and family life.
Roy’s background gives the production several musical and cultural eras to draw from, including Quebec country music, popular television and the performers he has worked with throughout his career.
The episode also arrives as Roy continues to lead a major scripted television series, giving the program an opportunity to reflect both on his earlier work and his current place in Quebec entertainment.
